Water Management

Residential Landscaping
Guaranteed Drainage Solutions.

One thing we've learned, in three generations of landscape construction, is how to trouble-shoot and fix landscape-related drainage problems. We've worked on every conceivable type of drainage issue, tracking each one back to its source. We've tracked damp and flooded basements to collapsed or silt-filled foundation drainage pipes, standing lawn water to improper lawn grading and sink holes to public water-main breaks.

Along the way, we've become highly skilled at using the full range of drainage solutions: window wells, French drains, dry wells, yard drains, driveway drains, drain boxes, down spout drain connections, sump pumps, foundation drains and dry creek beds. Bring us your toughest drainage problem, and we'll fix it. Guaranteed.

Tough, New Regulations.

Concern about storm water runoff, both during and after construction, has led the state of Maryland - and local governments - to enact strict new water management rules. Now, anyone planning new construction - or making any but the smallest property additions - must submit a detailed water-management plan to the local government before construction starts.  Those who fail to secure permits,  to follow the guidelines or to install drainage measures properly face stiff fines. Unheeded warnings may lead to additional fines and, possibly, imprisonment. Turf Center Lawns knows the regulations and what it takes to satisfy them.

Temporary Erosion Control.

During landscape construction, we use a number of cost-effective approaches to minimize storm-water runoff. Among the most popular are:

  • Soil stabilization techniques
  • Hydro-seeding
  • Erosion-control blankets
  • Sodding and Seeding
  • Drain protection with hay bales or fiber sock
  • Construction of silt and super-silt fences

Permanent Erosion Control.

Some permanent solutions also make attractive landscaping features in their own right. We will help you comply with local ordinances, while satisfying your own aesthetic preferences. Your choices may include:

  • Retaining walls and terraces made out of natural stone, wood, brick or concrete
  • Granite-lined dry creek beds
  • Assorted natural ground covers
  • A wide range of decorative plants
  • Tastefully landscaped sediment ponds

Storm Water Management

Underground Systems.

Montgomery County now requires homeowners and developers to use a limited number of county-compliant drainage systems to control storm water runoff. These carefully regulated solutions may include individual dry wells for downspouts and other drainage and storage approaches featuring required pipe gauges and grades as well as sump-pump configurations. Whatever your need, we can design and install the most appropriate solution.

Above-Ground Systems.

Passive above-ground systems also play an important role in managing and directing water flow. These include Swales (water channels created by subtly grading and contouring the ground), open drainage paths, collecting pools and sediment ponds. We have extensive experience in providing these options as well.
